The Horizon School Division is looking for Substitute Teachers dedicated to providing a quality instruction and education to students in the absence of the regular teacher. Substitute teachers play an important role serving our 20 schools and 19 colony schools.

Substitute Teacher Responsibilities: maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for the students

promote continued learning

follow lesson plans created by the teacher

if necessary, create his/her own lesson plans in accordance with the Alberta Education Programs of Study and the absent teachers unit plans and/or long range plans.

ensure that the classroom is running smoothly

clear, concise communication with the absent teacher

adhere to the same roles and responsibilities as any other classroom teacher as defined by the Education Act and the Teaching Profession Act.

Additional responsibilities may include: preparing educational materials

marking assignments or classwork

assigning classwork and homework

recess or lunch supervision duties

Qualifications/Requirements: Valid Alberta Teaching certification (required)

Clear Criminal Records Check, to include the Vulnerable Sector Check

Child Intervention Check completed by Child and Family ServicesDemonstrated Skills and Competencies: Strong instruction and classroom management skills

Solid communication and organizational skills

Personal integrity and trustworthiness

Ability to establish trust and rapport with students

Competency working with computers and other technologies to support student learning
