The Opportunity:

Beginning in August of the 2024-25 academic year, we are seeking a School Counsellor to work in our Senior and Middle School on a full-time, permanent basis. As a member of the School Counselling and Social Work Team, the School Counsellor supports students in grades 7 and/or 8 in academic planning, social-emotional learning (SEL) and well-being. With strong relational, communication and organizational skills, the Counsellor will partner with colleagues across the school and reports to the Director, Well-being & School Counselling.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Provide individual and small group counselling to meet the social, emotional and well-being needs of students;

Liaise and collaborate with teachers, social workers, nurses, students, parents and administrators in supporting student well-being and growth;

Participate in Parent-Teacher and/or Counsellor-Parent interviews;

Liaise with parents and other community members as needed in service of student well-being;

Support students with self-management and self-awareness along with social and relationship skills;

Actively participate on interdisciplinary teams to facilitate care and support plans for learning or social-emotional needs;

Develop, collaborate and deliver SEL curricular lessons and workshops for students;

Teach students distress tolerance, self-motivation and stress management skills;

Assist in planning and participate in parent and employee well-being education sessions;

Keep abreast of current resources, research, and best practices in support of student well-being.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, and has Additional Qualifications in Guidance and/or in Counselling. Knowledge of the IB Middle Years Program would be considered an asset. With a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and SEL, you have lived experiences of diversity, in its broadest sense and are impassioned and excited to embrace and work within a diverse student body. Adept at developing strong and caring relationships with students, you collaborate effectively with team members and are at ease partnering with families.
