JOB PURPOSE
The York School is looking for an experienced and inspirational Teacher to be part ofthe Middle School faculty as a Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher. The successful candidate will have had training or successful experience at the Junior or Intermediate Level with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) and will be well-versed in project-based and experientiallearning.
KEYRESPONSIBILITIES Teach and assess the curriculum within the InternationalBaccalaureate (IB) framework and philosophy ofthe Middle Years Programme (MYP)
Infuse The York Schools mission, vision, and values into allcurricularand co-curricularactivities
Ongoing assessment ofstudents, including report cards, progress reports and communication with parents and the teaching team
Establish and uphold student expectations through eective disciplinary strategies, fostering an environment conducive to teaching and learning
Utilizes a variety ofstrategies to build strong developmentalrelationships with students
Incorporate innovation and technology to enhance student learning across the curriculum
Provides an environment that supports bringing a diversity ofvoices and worldviews to classroom materialand learning experiences, including localand globalperspectives
Create a positive and engaging teaching and learning environment through adept classroom management practices and techniques
Stay abreast ofbest practices by actively participating in professionallearning opportunities and engaging in professionaldevelopment meetings
Contribute to student co-curricularand athletic programs as a teacher lead/supervisororcoach
Contribute to student experientiallearning by chaperoning on overnight excursions
Participate in supervision as assignedQUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS ABachelors degree, B.Ed. and membership in good standing with the Ontario College ofTeachers with JuniororIntermediate qualifications
Minimum 2-3 years experience teaching JuniororIntermediate Homeroom
Training and experience teaching the InternationalBaccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and/orMiddle Years Programme (MYP) considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part ofa collaborative team
Excellent written, verbaland interpersonalcommunication skills
Ability to interact with students, parents and stacheerfully, enthusiastically, courteously, patiently and with discretion
Strong organizationaland time management skills
Aproactive team playerwho is flexible and self-motivated with a Howcan Ihelp? attitude
