With a staff of 14,000, the Toronto Catholic is a dynamic school board and is seeking a Controller, Financial Account and Reporting .

CRITERIA FOR AN INTERVIEW: Professional accounting designation (CPA) is required

Minimum of five (5) years in a management role within the education sector

Comprehensive understanding of Ministry of Education funding and reporting

Comprehensive understanding of School Board budgets and operations

Comprehensive understanding of School Board financial accounting, including capital accounting

Experience preparing and presenting complex/confidential reports

Demonstrated ability to coordinate initiatives and manage competing priorities

Advanced user of office software packages, including Microsoft Office

Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to build working relationships with senior management and elected officials

Proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders within the public sector

Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Proven ability to coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams

Familiarity with public education programs, policies and procedures

Working knowledge of the Education Act, regulations and legislation

Working knowledge of SAP is an asset MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Senior Controller and Head of Financial Services this position will provide leadership and oversight to the following functions: Ministry Funding and Reporting

Audit and Accounting

Capital Accounting and Reporting

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Ministry Funding and Reporting

Provide direction and oversight of financial reporting to the Ministry of Education, including Estimates, Revised Estimates, Financial Statements, March Report and PPF report backs

Maintain knowledge of the Education Act, including relevant legislation, regulations and technical paper

Attend Ministry training sessions and participate in sector committee meetings

Participate in the annual budget deliberations and staffing processes Audit and Accounting Provide direction and oversight with respect to financial accounting

Maintain knowledge of accounting standards and Ministry requirements, including code of accounts and tangible capital asset guidelines

Oversee the Boards treasury function, including borrowing, investments and cashflow management

Oversee internal and external audits

Capital Accounting and Reporting Management Functions Participate in the development/preparation of departmental action plans, learning plans, policies, procedures, and Board/Committee reports

Present findings/recommendations to senior management and Trustees

Maintain knowledge of Board policies

Develop and implement tools and methods for the continual improvement and efficacy of practices and processes within the Board/department

Provide recommendations/solutions to aid in the resolution of matters which may be political, sensitive and confidential in nature

Supervise assigned departments

Relationship Management Build and foster strong working relationships with internal/external stakeholders to facilitate coordination of system/departmental priorities

Collaborate with members of the Financial Services management team to support departmental programs, policies, projects and initiatives

Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Controller and/or CFO

Oversee and monitor the Boards capital and renewal budget and reporting

Oversee the financial management of the Boards capital assets and properties, including asset retirement obligation (ARO)

Maintain knowledge of capital funding eligibility requirements

Work collaboratively with Capital, Renewal and Planning departments#TCDSBcareers
