St. Georges School is seeking an experienced and energized teacher to join the Applied Design, Skills, and Technology (ADST) department at the Junior School. Modules of specialization in the ADST curriculum could include: drafting, robotics, digital literacy, textiles, computational thinking, home economics, computer programming. The Junior School is exploring robotics as a co-curricular program; the ability to support this would be an asset.

This role requires an innovative teaching professional to support a collaborative learning environment using engaging and meaningful pedagogy focused on student learning and growth. Faculty are required to support the schools extracurricular program for two of the three terms. The extracurricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, and academic clubs and is offered a minimum once a week per term.

Responsibilities will include: Create, teach and lead the implementation of the ADST curriculum at the Junior School, Kindergarten to Grade 7.

Integrate the design cycle into the Kindergarten to Grade 7 program.

Plan, implement and assess design thinking ideas with classroom teachers as partners.

Collaboratively design, coordinate, and provide design thinking professional development for faculty.

Work as a team with the Inquiry Teacher to prepare supplies and maintain the effectiveness of the Makerspace.

Demonstrate commitment to incorporating real-world connections and problem solving into teaching and learning.

Collaborating with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment across sections of a course.

Utilize outcomes-based assessment and instruction as well as strong formative and summative assessment strategies.

Bringing in a diversity of voices and worldviews to classroom material and learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global perspectives.

Incorporating the BC Ministry Core Competencies regularly into lessons, assessments, and feedback.

Building a strong rapport with students and supporting the students in bringing out their best, both in and out of the classroom.

Regular communication to students, parents, and other stakeholders about student needs and growth, including but not limited to IEP meetings, formal report cards, portfolios, and parent-teacher-student conferences.

Becoming involved in helping with and/or leading ADST-related enrichment activities, both within and outside of class time.

Using a variety of pedagogical approaches & lesson design.

Make relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies in the classroom, including using SeeSaw, Google Classroom, Canvas and Gradebook for reporting.Qualifications will include: Post-secondary degree in the areas relevant for ADST including: Computer Science, Data Science, Architecture, Urban Design, Drafting or another relevant area.

Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or maintains the ability to obtain one.

Knowledge of BCs ADST curriculum, Kindergarten through to Grade 7.

Experience with curriculum design, design thinking, inquiry-based teaching. Background, education and passion for Makerspace Learning.

An interest in tinkering and making.

Experience working in an environment of excellence where a broad spectrum of programs operate simultaneously, demanding a great deal of forward planning and creativity.

Understanding of pedagogical trends through relevant, recent professional development.

Superior skills in knowledge of curriculum, teaching and learning, specifically when planning educational strategies.

Strongly committed to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.

Effective classroom management strategies.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis on collaborative planning and assessment.

Experience with teaching any of the following at an intermediate level: Robotics, algorithmic thinking and computational thinking, home economics skills (cooking, sewing, woodwork etc.).
