ENGLISH AND SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER

Fulltime (1.0 FTE) position

Rockridge Secondary School

Effective September 3, 2024 until June 30, 2025The annual salary for a full-time teaching position ranges from $50,000 to $104,000, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary will be prorated based on FTE. Required Qualifications and Experience

A fulltime position (1.0 FTE) teaching English and Social Studies. The successful candidate must demonstrate the following: Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching English including English First Peoples as well as Social Studies.

Solid understanding of the Ministry of Education Core Competencies, Big Ideas, and Learning Standards for English Language Arts and Social Studies.

The successful candidate would be willing to explore Indigenous literature and themes; encourage critical, creative, and reflective thought with regard to Canadas First Peoples; as well as collaborate with colleagues to build upon established units.

Ability to evaluate and report on student progress using Ministry of Education proficiency scales and IB MYP assessment standards and practices;

A willingness to work collaboratively with the IB MYP Coordinator and other classroom teachers to authentically develop IB MYP units of study;

A commitment to and demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum;

An ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all types of learners;

A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills;

Strong communication skills;

Hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate.
