Are you looking to build your career? Pembina Hills School Division is now inviting applications for a 3/4 Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice or Truck and Transport Mechanic (On Highway) (CUPE) based out of the Westlock Transportation Department. Duties are to commence as soon as possible.

The Division

Pembina Hills School Division provides education to approximately 3800 students in 15 community schools in north central Alberta. PHSD also provides education to over 10,000 students from within and beyond our borders, through our online school, Vista Virtual School.

PHSD currently operates 68 bus routes, transporting approximately 3,000 students daily. There are 2 contract routes and 66 routes operated by division drivers. For more information on our remarkable Division, please visit our website at www.pembinahills.ca

The Position

The apprentice reports directly to the Lead Mechanic and is responsible for all aspects of the transportation maintenance, including maintenance and repair of the entire transportation fleet, following a preventative maintenance program and ensuring compliance with regulations as required by Alberta Transportation and other regulatory bodies. The apprentice may also be dispatched to perform service calls and perform emergency repairs on units.

The hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday 8 hours/day. Overtime is provided after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week.

Wage is $35.11/hr (Mechanic) to $37.15/hr (Heavy-Duty Mechanic). Apprentice wage would be adjusted as per the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act Qualifications Alberta Journeyman's certificate as a Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic, or has a valid Alberta apprentice ticket

Must be a proven self-directed team player.

Strong diagnostic skills and understanding of electrical systems

Can lift up to 50 pounds

Valid Alberta Class 1 or 2 Drivers license would be an asset

Computer Skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Flexibility and adaptability to new challenges

Must be willing to respond to roadside breakdowns

Good time management and organizational skills

Dependable and reliable
