This is a contract position that will end December 31, 2024 Organizational Relationship:

Manager, Ability Management

Job PurposeActs as a case management advisor and provides early intervention for short term absence claims (up to 20 30 days) working towards early, safe and suitable return to work in order to minimize lost time for all employee groups. Provides leadership to principals/supervisors and staff regarding the DDSB Ability Management processes/procedures. Serves as a resource and communicates with staff, unions and medical practitioners to provide early intervention for absent employees. Identifies and addresses employees who exhibit concerning absence trends or excessive sporadic absences. Develops and produces absence statistics.Accountabilities MANAGE SHORT-TERM ABSENCE CLAIMS FOR ALL DDSB EMPLOYEES: Request and receive medical documentation from all employees and adjudicate access to sick benefits for ongoing absences. If necessary, request further medical information to support access to sick leave benefits. Maintain medical files through regular communication with employees accessing sick leave in order to receive updates regarding recovery and treatment as well as potential return to work options. Communicate with all parties about the approval/denial of sick leave benefits and guide employees about the alternative leave options when access to sick leave is denied.

MANAGE RETURN TO WORK/ ACCOMODATION PLANS: Organize and lead meetings with internal and external parties to discuss return to work options and accommodation needs. If needed, implement a safe and suitable return plan. Ensure return to work plan is progressing well and adjust if required. Provide regular updates to Employee Records department for employee sick information.

PROVIDE LEADERSHIP REGARDING THE ABILITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AT DDSB: Organize and lead meetings with all involved parties including union/federation representation when applicable, to discuss return to work options and accommodation needs. Investigate medical claims to determine if certain cases require referral to WSIB case manager, Labour Relations or Leave of Absence request system. Act as a resource of information for principals/supervisors related to the DDSB Ability Management Program. DEVELOP, PRODUCE AND ANALYZE ABSENCE STATISTICS FOR ALL EMPLOYEE GROUPS: Collaborate with IT for an efficient absence data reporting process, make all the required absence data analysis and produce regular absence statistics for all employee groups.

Knowledge and Skills

Computer literacy and use of specialized equipment/technology

Ability to analyze all employee positions as they relate to physical/ cognitive job functionality DDSB Ability Management processes

Sound judgement, analytical, problem solving skills, conflict resolution, and communication skills

Knowledge of related legislation, policies, procedures and acts (i.e. WSIB, Human Rights legislation, Health and Safety Code, Employment Standards Act)

Knowledge of Disability Management Best Practices

Knowledge of the Collective Agreements for all employee groups Education and ExperienceEducation

Completion of an undergraduate university degree or a combination of education, certification, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.

Experience

5 years Case management & return to work practices preferred.
