The Durham District School Board and The Ignite Durham Learning Foundations Make a Difference Depot was established to help reduce the impacts of poverty on students. The Ignite Durham Learning Foundation (IDLF) is a charitable organization that serves to remove financial barriers to create equitable opportunities that empower Durham District School Board students to achieve academic and personal success.

Reporting to the Ignite Durham Learning Foundation Executive Director with day-to-day supervision by the IDLF Fundraising Coordinator, the IDLF Make a Difference Depot Warehouse Associate will support with day-to-day administration, logistics, organization, and facilitation of the programs found at The Depot:

The programs of the IDLF Make a Difference Depot are: The Starfish Store : accepts and sources new items that support students success in school by ensuring they have access to school supplies, personal care products and clothing to address their readiness to learn.

The Re:Source Program : receives donations from organizations that have an overstock of various supplies that may be repurposed in classrooms to enhance student learning.

The S.N.A.C.K Program (Nutrition Station and Food Pantry) : supports breakfast and snack programs in DDSBs Make a Difference schools as well as students and their families facing food insecurity by providing food hampers. Summary of Duties: Responsible for the general oversight of The Depot, including facilitating the operation of the three programs of The Depot

Solicit and manage donations that align and support the three distinct areas of The Depot

Participate as a member of the IDLF Fundraising Committee, actively contributing ideas.

Promote the Ignite Durham Learning Foundations mission and vision through communication with local organizations

Responsible for inventory system, processing, and sorting of donated materials

Use data to drive work priorities

Work closely with Village Union P.S. staff to coordinate use of space, safety protocols and adherence to school specific policies

Share available Depot resources with DDSB staff and approved community partners via a monthly email newsletter

Create efficiencies in distribution of donated items

Maintain accurate donation records through DonorPerfect CRM software

Manage schedule and calendar of events for incoming donations

Manage schedule and calendar of events for outgoing deliveries

Coordinate transportation of materials to and from The Depot as required

Solicit volunteers to support at The Depot as well as in-school nutrition and snack programs

Liaise with school staff to ensure continuation of snack programs by soliciting donations, accepting, sorting, and coordinating pick-up of food items

Maintain relationships with donors through regular communication via telephone, email and in-person visits

Represent The IDLF Make a Difference Depot at community events

Maintain overall order, organization, and cleanliness of The Depot

Knowledge and Skills: Experience with warehouse logistics and retail.

Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to prioritize workload

Self-Starter with an ability to work independently maintaining a standard of excellence in productivity

Professional and effective communication skills with a strong customer service focus

Computer Competency including experience with Email, Insignia, Google Suite, Word, Excel, Inventory Systems, Trellis, DonorPerfect and more

Awareness of and sensitivity to the trends and impacts of poverty

Cultural and societal awareness and sensitivity to the variety of needs that exist amongst our DDSB students and families

Knowledge of community development, social services, Durham demographics, and more

Knowledge and experience in the not-for-profit sector, particularly in the area of fundraising

Education: Secondary School Diploma

Special Requirements: A valid driver's license

Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50lbs.

Flexible availability as the work schedule is fluid and will include shifts outside of regular business/school hours

The IDLF Make a Difference Depot is located at Village Union Public School in Oshawa, Ontario and this will be where the role is based.This is a 21 hour per week, 12 month permanent position.
