We are currently seeking a talented French and English speaking Temporary .50 Vice Principal to join the cole Whitehorse Elementary School team. The WES school cole Whitehorse Elementary is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dn First Nation and the Taan Kwchn Council. cole Whitehorse Elementary is a single-track French Immersion school, Grades K-7 with a student population of approximately 470. We have a dynamic, dedicated staff. Students enjoy specialty classes in the arts, outdoor education, library, Applied Design Skills Technology, movement and dance and Physical Education, all delivered in French. Students also have Southern Tuchone First Nations Language classes. . Essential Qualifications

Bachelor of Education

Recent experience in leadership in a large school setting;

Recent experience teaching at the primary/intermediate level with differentiating instruction to meet students needs;

Coursework towards a Masters Degree or equivalent in Education or completion of the Yukon Education Leadership Program or equivalent;

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

Decision making skills which demonstrate effective listening, ability to accommodate, and to mediate diverse views from all stake holders and the commitment to seeking cooperative resolution;

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain rapport with students, parents, staff, and school council;

Strong classroom management, planning and organizational skills;

Ability to support a school wide transition to 21st Century Learning Models;

Ability to support appropriate Individual Education, Student Behavior, and Safety Plans within the classroom;

Commitment to create a shared vision to build upon the strengths in the school and move the school forward in its curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs;

Comprehensive knowledge of elementary curriculum and teaching strategies;

Ability to work as a collaborative team member with professional staff, department personnel, school paraprofessional, and other staff members;

A knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally-diverse student population.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

French proficiency level required: B2

French Language Proficiency will be tested as part of the assessment process as per Yukon Territory standards.

As English is the administrative language in the Government of Yukon, your cover letter and resume must be submitted in English.

To be an Administrator in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
