TEMPORARY MENTAL HEALTH WORKER

The
WECDSB is currently recruiting for the position of Temporary Mental Health
Worker reporting to the Superintendent of Education, Student Achievement and
the Mental Health Lead. The Mental Health Worker will be an integral member of
the Mental Health team as an integral contributor within a multidisciplinary framework (understanding all three Tiers of
Interventions associated with the WECDSB Mental Health strategy).
General Responsibilities:
Under
the direction of the Mental Health Lead, the Mental Health Worker will provide
mental health support to students throughout July, 2024 and August, 2024. This will involve a service approach that
will be based on needs within the system by providing:
?
brief,
solution-focused counseling (4-6 sessions,
time-limited, goal specific) to students who have been referred (eg. 1:1
support, group support, check-ins, etc.);
?
prevention, early intervention and crisis intervention, as needed;
?
working with the
Mental Health Lead to prepare student wellness sessions;
?
following established
protocols (suicide, safe schools, bereavement, etc.); and
?
developing proactive
interventions (groups) once student based needs have been identified.
Remuneration is set at $51.82
per hour. Mental Health Workers will be
paid for 7 hours a day (8:30 am to 3:30 pm) and are expected to be available a
minimum of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) beginning July 2,
2024 and ending August 30, 2024. The schedule will be agreed upon hire.
Qualifications and Requirem ents:
?
Regulated Mental Health Workers
including members of the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service
Workers, the College of Psychologists of Ontario or the College of Registered
Psychotherapists of Ontario
o
Registered or eligible for
registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
?
A valid Ontario Driver's License and
access to a car
?
Experience working with youth from
diverse backgrounds
?
Ability to collect, track and
analyze data
?
Demonstrated ability to work
collaboratively in teams as well as independently
?
Solid interpersonal and verbal, and
written communication skills
?
Proven problem-solving and
decision-making ability
The following would be considered an asset:
?
Group facilitation skills
?
A.S.I.S.T and /or SafeTALK training
or similar experience
?
Training in Cognitive Behaviour
Therapy (CBT)
?
Familiarity with Google applications
