Vital Youth, a report compiled by nationwide community barometer Vital Signs, produced some terrifying stastics about how things are changing for the young: We're taking larger gaps between secondary and post-secondary. One in three of us—even after attaining our post-secondary educations—moves onto low-skilled jobs, in effect wasting our education. 3.2 million, as a result, are developing mental health issues. Worse still, the traditional middle-class trajectory—education, career, property—is disappearing, and likely for good.
Those figures are just the tip of the iceberg. It'd be enough to sink other generations, but, as many other studies have noted, we're passionate, adaptable and honest—and those determining qualities make us uniquely suited to navigating these shifts.
