You are here

Looking for jobs is easier than ever in this information age. It takes less than one second for Google to retrieve 3.2 trillion web pages related to the terms “job search.” Filtering through all of this to find what is relevant to you is another story, but the truth remains, job postings are more accessible than ever!

No doubt you already use a computer and an Internet browser to do most of your job hunting, but if you have a smartphone, (particularly one that has an Android or iOS operating system), there are job-searching apps you can use when you’re away from your computer. I’m here to tell you about three free apps you can use for job hunting.

Jobs

There are plenty of apps that essentially give the convenience of career websites in the palm of your hand. You can see which postings are the most recently uploaded, their job descriptions, and select your favourite postings to apply for. You can even apply from your phone!

Tip: Save your resumé on these types of sites. By doing so, you can apply from your phone very quickly! Recruiters also look through these sites to find resumes and profiles they like, so take advantage of this free opportunity!

Kijiji (or Craigslist)

Depending on where you are, Craigslist might be a more popular online classifieds list, but where I’m from, more people tend to post ads on Kijiji. Kijiji allows you to filter what type of job you’re looking for, but I generally recommend searching through all their ads, as some employers might not categorize their ads properly. Kijiji allows you to see how many people have viewed this particular posting, so you try to gauge your competition from this number.

LinkedIn

I wrote an article about how important LinkedIn is last month and I hate to ring that bell again, but it really is an essential networking site and app to have as young professionals!

In this day and age, sometimes finding a job means being connected to the right person, in addition to having the right skill sets. LinkedIn doesn’t directly link you to a job posting all the time, but it certainly can educate you on trends in your field. That can definitely give you an edge when searching for jobs.

Get these apps if you don’t have them already and best of luck with the job hunt!

(And there are plenty of other apps to try, too! Check out additional apps here.)
